From an engineering perspective geodesic domes are far superior to traditional right-angle
post and beam construction techniques, which are far less efficient, far heavier, inherently instable, and rely on gravity to stand up.
With very strong
and light-weight pieces the basic geodesic dome structure erects very
quickly. A properly constructed dome can withstand winds over 200
miles per hour while at the same time is light and easily transported.
The dome is also aerodynamic, so it withstands tornados and hurricanes
better than conventional flat sided buildings. Since the 1970's, 200,000
geodesic domes have been built and used for homes and shelters.
